sition, change the delay time to get better surround effect
•When D2 or D3 is equal to or larger than D1, no setting is nec­

played back in the Pan & Scan style on a con­

Letterbox:

The video material for a wide-screen will be

played back in the letterbox style on a conven­
tional size TV.

•“4 D, (Dynamic) Range Compression”

Off:

Normal audio range (Factory setting)

On:

Dynamic sound even on a low volume. [This
only works with Dolby Digital DVDs.]

•“5 Still Picture Display”

Off:

The picture type (i/P/B) will not be displayed in

the still picture mode. (Factory setting)

On:

The picture type (I/P/B) will be displayed.

•“6 NTSC Disc output”

What is meant by “i/P/B (picture type)"?

•l-picture (Intra coded picture)

Standard picture type. Each picture is coded separately.

•P-picture (Predictive coded picture)

This is computed on the basis of a past i-picture or P-picture.

•B-picture (Bidirectionally-predictive coded picture)

This is computed by comparing the previous and subsequent

l-picture or P-picture.
