Button Functions

Take

A take button routes the chosen source to the destination device for the control unit in which
the take button is located. (The source must have been selected in the same control unit.)

The default button text is “Take” but the button can have any legend.

Undefined

An undefined button cannot be used and appears dark (unlit) on the panel. The term “unde-
fined button” has meaning primarily to the configurer and not the operator.

Buttons for the Standalone Model

Under the standalone model, the panel has 3 independent control units, and therefore each
panel can control 3 destinations. Because the panel is standalone, an NV9649 is not required.

Under the standalone model, there are 7 button types, not including “undefined” which is not a
true button type:

Destination

The button selects a destination. The destination name appears in the display of the control unit
in which the destination button is located. The destination is the target of an upcoming take,
which will route a source to that destination.

Pressing a destination button has a side effect: it turns off the ‘Take’ button if it is on.

Destination Lock

This button is a toggle that sets or clears a lock on the destination assigned to the control unit in
which the destination lock button is located. The lock can be removed at the panel that origi-
nally set the lock, at a panel that has the same user ID, or by a forced release at any panel.

The button for a protected destination is high-tally yellow; the button for a locked destination is
high-tally red.

Destination Protect

This button is a toggle that sets or clears a protect on the destination assigned to the control unit
in which the destination protect button is located. The protect can be removed at the panel that
originally set the protect, at any panel that has the same user ID, or by a forced release at any
panel.

Note: a protect prevents others from routing to a destination; a lock prevents anyone

even

the user who issued the lock

from routing to the destination.

You can lock a protected destination, but you cannot change a locked destination to a
protected destination directly. You must first unlock it.

The NV9648 provides no explicit indication, during operation, whether a destination is
protected or unprotected.
