The printer Alerts setting might be
turned off. Open the HP Color LaserJet 1600
Toolbox and click on the Alerts tab.
Verify that Turn on alerts is selected and
at least one of the options in the Show
alert when section is selected.
The USB cable might need to be
reseated. Disconnect the cable from the computer
and then reconnect it.
