Digital Voice Module (DVM)

The Digital Voice Module is a single in-line memory module (SIMM). It
compresses 64 Kbps voice obtained from the T1/E1 line into low-speed channels,
thereby optimizing the use of the available bandwidths.

• Up to six may be installed in a T1/E1 Voice Module

• Up to 12 may be installed in Digital Voice Expansion Module.

Physical Description

The Digital Voice Module is a daughter board that plugs into a connector on top
of the T1 Voice Module, E1/T1 Voice Module, or Digital Voice Expansion Module.

Procedure 15: Installing a Digital Voice Module

1.

Orient the Digital Voice Module in a vertical position, with the applicable

connector on the right side.

2.

Place the bottom of the Digital Voice Module in the groove formed by the T1

Voice Module or the E1 Voice Module (or Digital Voice Expansion Module)
connector pins, and align the notch in the Digital Voice Module with the tab
in the center of the connector.

3.

Push down firmly on the Digital Voice Module, then turn it slowly
downward approximately 20 degrees until it is latched in position.

4.

Repeat steps 1 through 3 to install the remaining Digital Voice Modules.

Warning:

!

Do not attempt to remove or install a Digital Voice Module while
power is connected to the Integration Unit that houses the T1
Voice Module or the E1 Voice Module. Be sure to disconnect
the Integration Unit from the power source.
