2.0 PORT STRUCTURE
2.1 OVERVIEW
The Network Management Module front panel provides the access to the Management ports. Management
can be accessed through the serial port or the UTP port. The module features a backplane Ethernet port for
connectivity to adjacent modules.

2.1.1 Serial Console Port
The NMM features a Serial RS-232 Console Port (aka Craft Interface) for the initial setup and configuration
described in this manual. The Serial Console Port is accessed through the DB9 female DCE interface.
2.1.2 Daisy Chain Ports (Multi-Chassis)
The NMM provides a pair of redundant ports to daisy chain (cascade) up to 19 chassis providing single IP
address management.
Multi-Chassis Configuration
To configure a set of chassis for a multi-chassis configuration, the following requirements must be followed:
• Only one NMM per chassis
• No other management modules can be installed in the chassis (i.e. 10/100M, GX/TM, etc.)
• Each NMM must have a unique chassis number (see Section 3.4.1.3)
• Remote OAM must be disabled (see Section 3.4.3.2)
