7 Examples

7.1 The voltage activation curve of Kv1.4

Two alternatives can be used for the measurement of the voltage activation curve by measuring
with the current activated during a voltage step and measuring of the relaxation current.

The program sequence for both example was the same and voltage steps were defined by setting
Step 1 to -50, 20 increments of 5 mV each. Setting Step 2 to -50 mV evoked a tail current of
sufficient amplitude for the measurement of the relaxation.

In the first case the current is measured during the voltage step and needs to be subtracted for
the passive properties of the cells. Recording performed in oocytes expressing the channel KV1.4
illustrate how a progressive depolarization of the membrane activates the potassium channel.
