Table 5 Universal Replicator for Mainframe Data Volume Pair Status (continued)

Description

Pair Status

The pair status is changing to Hold because of the delta resync pair
creating. Only the delta resync operation, a releasing operation, or
changing pair option operation are allowed operations on the pairs
in the Holding status.
This status is displayed when the environment of the delta resync
operation to support remote command devices is used.

If you execute the delta resync operation on the pair in the Holding
status, the operation may fail. If you set Entire to Delta resync Failure
with the Change JNL Option dialog box, all deferential data will be
copied to a secondary data volume.

Holding

1

An error occurred on the pair in Hold status. When the status of
primary data volume is Hlde, the write data for the TrueCopy for
Mainframe Synchronous S-VOL is not stored in the master journal
volume.

Only recovering pair status to standby (Hold) operation, a releasing
operation, or a changing pair option operation are allowed on the
pairs in Hlde status.

Hlde

1

Holding indicates that the deferential data to be used for a delta resync operation does not exist in the storage system,
or the storage system cannot determine if the delta resync operation can be performed without the deferential data to
be used for a delta resync operation. When the differential data to be used for a delta resync operation does not exist
in the secondary site of TrueCopy for Mainframe even if you update the data from the host on the primary site, the
differential data might have been discarded due to the following:

The cache or shared memory was added to or reduced from the storage system during the maintenance work.

The storage system was powered off during the maintenance work.

The Universal Replicator pair or TrueCopy for Mainframe pair was suspended, and then the pair has been
resynchronized.

The journal volume could not be accessed because the disaster or failure occurred in the secondary site of TrueCopy
for Mainframe.

After each problem is recovered, the deferential data are stored in the secondary site of TrueCopy for Mainframe
again when you update the data in the primary site.
The status in which the delta resync operation can be executed without the differential data for the delta resync means
that the data update to the primary site is not executed or the both data of the TrueCopy for Mainframe secondary site
and the Universal Replicator for Mainframe secondary site are coincident because the data update is stopped. To
make the above mentioned condition, make the configuration to execute the delta resync operation to support the
remote command devices, and then change the status of all Universal Replicator for Mainframe pair and TrueCopy
for Mainframe pair which belong to the desired journal group in the primary site to PAIR by the resynchronizing
operation.
Even if the delta resync operation without the deferential data is executable, the pair status will change to Hold regardless
of the differential data existing if the conditions of the differential data discarding are satisfied as mentioned above.
To change the status of the pair to Hold, update the data in the primary disk system after the recovery from the condition
of the differential data discarding.
If you cannot connect to the secondary site of TrueCopy for Mainframe due to failures or disasters, the transition from
Holding to Hold is not performed correctly.

Suspend Types

Table 6 (page 42)

lists and describes the Universal Replicator for Mainframe suspend types, which

indicate the reason for the suspension. A Universal Replicator for Mainframe pair can be suspended
by the user at any time after the initial copy operation is complete. The user must suspend a Universal
Replicator for Mainframe pair in order to perform ICKDSF maintenance on the primary data volume
or to access the secondary data volume (read only mode).
