10 Using HP 3PAR CLX with Recovery Manager
SQL Server Failover Clustering is a shared storage failover cluster solution which consists of two
or more nodes. There is one copy of the SQL databases with this solution. However, because this
solution is based on a shared storage, third-party array-based replication solution like HP Remote
Copy, synchronous and asynchronous replication can be used to have more than one copy of the
SQL databases.
HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for SQL supports SQL server clustering with CLX configuration.
Recovery Manager supports SQL server clustering and HP 3PAR CLX configuration in conjunction
with Remote copy feature of Recovery Manager.
A backup server is required for each site corresponding to each array. If there are two arrays
configured in a local site and a remote site, there will be a need for two backup servers, one on
local site and one on the remote site.
Figure 12 describes an example of two site configurations.

This figure is only an example, follow clustering best practices for implementation.
Recovery Manager supports only two-site configuration. Within each site, any number of nodes is
supported.
A backup server is required for each site corresponding to each array.
The backup server on each site must be configured only with the array connected to the nodes on
that site. For example, using provcfg configuration tool, ensure that you add only Site A array
configuration on the Site A backup server. Similarly on site B, configure only the site B array.
The backup server on each site can only manage the SQL server Instances or databases which
are owned by nodes on the respective sites.
