Multiple Host Backup Configuration (For Exchange 2010)

HP recommends that you use a separate Recovery Manager for Exchange backup server for the
mailbox databases/storage groups on each HP 3PAR Storage System and that you execute
commands from each Recovery Manager backup server for each HP 3PAR Storage System. For
example, if your Exchange configuration involves two systems, System1 and System2, you should
use two backup servers and execute Recovery Manager commands for System1 from Backup
Server 1, and execute commands for System2 from Backup Server 2. If you have one HP 3PAR
Storage System, you need just one Recovery Manager backup server, and the -vs parameter is
the Recovery Manager server used for verification.

Backup Configurations

(For Exchange 2010) If your Exchange 2010 configuration uses Database Availability Groups
(DAG), which replicates mailbox database(s) across multiple HP 3PAR Storage Systems, HP
recommends that you use a master Recovery Manager backup server and use the other Recovery
Manager backup servers as verification servers (designated with the -vs parameter). Under this
configuration, the Recovery Manager for Exchange repository is centralized, and managed from
one server. Keep in mind that under this configuration, each verification server must have Recovery
Manager Backup Server installed in order to perform backups to media.

(For Exchange 2007) CCR configurations can be implemented at a single site or span multiple
sites. When implemented at a single site, a single backup server is utilized. For implementations
that span multiple sites, two backup servers are required. The command RMExch peer is used to
specify the name of the peer backup server for multiple sites. This command must be run in CCR
configurations using two backup servers and is not required for CCR configurations using only one
backup server. See “Configuring Recovery Manager” (page 22).

When implemented at a single site, you can use a single backup server, as shown in

Figure 4

(page 15)

and

Figure 5 (page 15)

. For implementations that span multiple sites, you must use one

backup server per site, as shown in
