4.2 Option

Modules

The following option modules are available for remote access. Any one of these modules may be either pre-
fitted into the VDM or may be retro fitted.

• VDM/PSTN

Connect via a PSTN (standard telephone) line

• VDM/ISDN

A faster connection may be achieved via an ISDN digital line.

• VDM/ETHER-1

This module allows one or more VDMs to be monitored on a local area
network (10baseT or 100baseT Ethernet, using TCP/IP protocol).

4.2.1 Installation

• The diagram below indicates how the module is fitted. Note that all the modules mount with their

metal plate at the top (as indicated in this diagram).

• The VDM/ETHER-1 module has a ribbon cable that is permanently attached.

1. Remove the mains power to the VDM Digital Recorder

2. Remove the options module blanking on the VDM Digital Recorder (4 screws)

3. Plug one end of the supplied ribbon into…

4. … the 10-pin header inside the VDM (make sure all the pins line up on both rows and the

stripe is to the left when viewed from the rear of the VDM.

5. Plug the other end of the ribbon into 10-pin header on the VDM/PSTN or VDM/ISDN

module, making sure all the pins line up on both rows (cable is fixed to VDM/ETHER-1).

6. Carefully fit the module into the VDM Digital Recorder and replace the 4 screws to securely

fix it to the rear panel of the VDM Digital Recorder.

Connect to a PSTN, ISDN or Ethernet socket using the cable provided. If you wish to connect
the VDM-ETHER-1 directly to a PC (without a hub), a CAT5 cross-over cable will be required.
