Oven Cleaning

This selection is the start of an oven cleaning process that burns off most
residue build-up in the oven. Use a fume hood to remove possible toxic

emissions from the
work place. Similar to
the self-cleaning mode

in a home oven, the process turns the
heating elements on to reach an oven
temperature of 550º

C in less than 22

minutes. The oven temperature will be
maintained for a total oven cleaning
time of 45 minutes from start to finish.
The heat generated makes the top of
the instrument hotter than normal.
Extreme caution should be used to
prevent injury until the instrument has
cooled down at the conclusion of the
cleaning cycle. During the cleaning cycle, there may be smoke, odor, and possible
toxic emissions produced by the instrument. This is normal as the residue is burned
off the oven lining. Use a fume hood to remove the fumes and smoke from the work
place. Consult the MSDS on your sample materials to determine the content of the
emissions.

For a complete description of the oven cleaning procedure, see section beginning on
page 80.
