Using the Flash (Flash Modes)

You can set the flash mode to match the shooting conditions.

Press the multi selector H (m flash mode).

Use the multi selector to select the desired
mode and press the k button.

See “Available Flash Modes” (

A 57) for more

information.

If a setting is not applied by pressing the

k button

within a few seconds, the selection will be canceled.

When U (auto) is applied, D is only displayed for

a few seconds, regardless of Monitor settings
settings (

A 88).

Frame the subject and take a picture.

The flash lamp indicates the status of the flash

when you press the shutter-release button
halfway.

- On: The flash will fire when you press the

shutter-release button all the way down.

- Blinking: The flash is charging. The camera cannot take pictures.

- Off: The flash will not fire when a picture is taken.

If the battery is low, the monitor will turn off in order to save power while the flash is

charging.

Effective Range of the Flash

When ISO sensitivity is set to Auto, the flash has a range of 0.5 to 4.6 m (1 ft 8 in. to 15 ft) at the
maximum wide-angle zoom position and a range of 0.5 to 3.0 m (1 ft 8 in. to 9 ft 10 in.) at the
maximum telephoto zoom position.
