4DK Series Pumps

OIL SEALS (Input/Tail Shafts)

See Figure 7 "Oil Seal Replacement."

Input shaft and tail shaft oil seals are replaced by
disconnecting the yoke from the pump and can
be accomplished with the unit installed.

1. Remove the 3/4-10 x 1-3/4" screw and

washer and carefully slide the yoke from
the shaft.

2. Remove the defective oil seal being careful

not to score the shaft.

3. Carefully insert a new oil seal into the

housing.

4. Carefully slide the yoke onto the shaft and

secure using the 3/4-10 x 1-3/4" screw and
washer. Torque screw to 260 ft.-lb.
(352 N-m). DO NOT overtighten– yoke
must spin freely.

GEAR BOX and PUMP

Removal

1. Park the vehicle on a level surface with

ample clearance around all sides for
maintenance availability.

2. Shut down the engine.

3. Set the parking brake and chock the front

and rear tires. Obtain access to the pump
and gearbox using safe practices in accor-
dance with your regulations.

4. Drain the pump and piping, then discon-

nect the suction and discharge piping from
the pump.

5. Remove the 3/4" NPT drain plug and drain

the gearbox oil into a suitable container
(approximately 5 quarts/4.7 liters).

6. Disconnect the drive shafts (front and rear)

from the gearbox.

7. Disconnect the speed-counter cable,

electrical switches, and air lines.

8. ATTACH PROPER LIFTING DEVICE

BEFORE LOOSENING OR REMOVING
PUMP MOUNTINGS.

9. Disconnect mounting brackets then re-

move pump and gearbox assembly from
apparatus.

10. Place pump and gearbox assembly on a

stable work bench.

Make sure the oil breather and gearbox
cover are in the up direction. Also be
certain the shift shaft is in the road (in)
position.
