4DK Series Pumps

Wear Limits:
4.770" to 4.787" (121.2-121.6mm)

Mechanical Seal Assembly

See Figure 15: "Pump Body and Impeller
Assembly" on page 32.

1. Inspect the mechanical seal.

2. If replacing mechanical seal, remove the

seal spring and seal bellows from pump
shaft.

3. Remove seal stationary seat from pump

head.

Installation

See Figure 16: "Impeller/Mechanical Seal
Assembly" on page 33.

1. Apply a generous coating of Pac-Ease

Rubber Lubricant Emulsion (or equal) to
the O-ring on the outside of the stationary
seat.

2. Carefully slide the stationary seat over the

pump shaft and press it into the pump
head. Avoid touching the running face of
the seat.

3. Without touching the running face, make

sure the stationary seat is seated in the
bore of the pump head using a pusher tool
as shown in Figure 17: "Mechanical Seal
Pusher Tool," in the next column.

4. Apply a generous coating of Pac-Ease

Rubber Lubricant Emulsion (or equal) to
the pump shaft and seal diaphragm.

5. Without touching the carbon seal ring,

push the carbon seal ring, diaphragm,
retainer and drive ring onto the shaft.

A pusher tool similar to the one shown in

Figure 17 should be used to perform this
task. Keep the shaft well lubricated and
make sure the carbon seal ring seats
against the stationary seat.

If binding occurs apply additional lubricant.
Slide any springs, cup washers, etc.
supplied with the seal onto the shaft. Make
sure the spring seats on the drive flange.

Impeller / Pump Body Installation

See Figure 15: "Pump Body and Impeller
Assembly" on page 32.

Before attempting reassembly of the pump
body and impeller, the components must be
inspected to tolerances. See previous head-
ing "Inspection" on page 33. Replace any
component if inspection indicates it is not
within tolerances specified.

Impeller Hub Installation

See Figure 16: "Impeller/Mechanical Seal
Assembly" on page 33.
