Removing the Microprocessor Cooling Fan (Desktop Chassis)

1.  Turn off the computer and peripherals, disconnect them from their electrical outlets, wait at least 5 seconds, and then

remove the computer cover

.

2.  

Rotate the power supply

away from the system board.

3.  

Remove the airflow shroud

.

4.  Disconnect the fan power cable from its connector on the system board (FAN). To locate this connector, see "

System Board Components

" or "

Interior Service

Label

."

5.  Gently pull the plastic locking tab back, and push the fan downward to disengage the four anchor tabs holding the fan to the back chassis wall.

6.  Lift the fan out of the chassis.

Replacing the Microprocessor Cooling Fan (Desktop Chassis)

To replace the microprocessor cooling fan, perform the

removal procedure

in reverse.
