Troubleshooting Enclosure Cooling Problems

Problem

Systems management software issues a fan-related error message.

Action

Ensure that none of the following conditions exist:

Ambient temperature is too high.

External airflow is obstructed.

A power supply/cooling fan module has failed. See "Troubleshooting a Fan" on page 72.

Troubleshooting a Fan

Problem

Enclosure-status indicator is amber.

Systems management software issues a fan-related error message.

Fan status indicator indicates a problem with the fan.

Action

CAUTION:

Only trained service technicians are authorized to remove the enclosure cover and access any of the

components inside the enclosure. Before performing any procedure, see your Product Information Guide for
complete information about safety precautions, working inside the enclosure and protecting against
electrostatic discharge.

CAUTION:

The cooling fans are hot-pluggable. To maintain proper cooling while the system is on, replace only

one fan at a time.

1 Locate the malfunctioning fan.
2 Ensure that the faulty power supply/cooling fan module is properly connected to the enclosure

midplane.

3 If the problem is not resolved, install a new power supply/cooling fan module. See

"Removing and Installing the Power Supply/Cooling Fan Module" on page 62.

If the replacement fan does not operate, see "Getting Help" on page 77.

Troubleshooting SAS Physical Disks
