Enabling a Second PERC 2/DC

RAID Controller

Perform the following procedure when a second Dell PowerEdge expandable RAID
controller 2/dual channel (PERC 2/DC) RAID adapter is present on a PowerVault 735N
system.

NOTE: This procedure requires a monitor and keyboard to access the PERC 2/DC
basic input output system (BIOS) Configuration Utility, which allows the user to create
a logical drive on the secondary controller. This logical drive is necessary for manage-
ment of the adapter under the Windows Powered operating system.

This procedure assumes that the user has already setup and configured the system
Internet protocol (IP) address (through dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP),
serial connection, or PowerVault Kick-Start) and that at least one PowerVault 210S
with three or more physical disks is connected to the second PERC 2/DC adapter
(second slot from the bottom) on channel A.

1.

Shut down the system from the NAS Manager.

2.

Connect a keyboard and monitor to the system.

3.

Restart the system.

While the system is rebooting, wait for the following message to display:

PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller
Press <Crtl><M> to Run Configuration Utility

4.

Press <Crtl><M> to run the PERC BIOS Configuration Utility.

5.

From the Management Menu window, select Select Adapter and press
<Enter>.

6.

Select Adapter-1 on the Select Adapter window and press <Enter>.

You are now managing the second PERC 2/DC adapter

7.

From the Management Menu window, select Configure and press <Enter>.
