Optical Drive

 

Removing an Optical Drive

 

1.

Follow the procedures in

Before You Begin

.


 

2.

Remove the computer cover (see

Removing the Computer Cover

).


 

3.

Remove the bezel (see

Removing the Bezel

).


 

4.

Disconnect the optical drive data cable from the system board connector.

 

5.

Slide the drive release latch downward and hold it in place. Without releasing the latch, slide the optical drive out of the computer.

7.

Replace the bezel (see

8.

Replace the computer cover (see

Replacing the Computer Cover

).

 

9.

Connect your computer and devices to electrical outlets, and then turn them on.

 

10.

Configure the drives in system setup (see

Entering System Setup

).

 

Installing an Optical Drive

 

1.

Unpack the drive and prepare it for installation.

Check the documentation that accompanied the drive to verify that the drive is configured for your computer.

 

2.

Follow the procedures in

Before You Begin

.


 

3.

If you are replacing an optical drive, remove the shoulder screws from the existing drive and attach the screws to the replacement drive.

 

4.

If you are installing a new optical drive:

Remove the shoulder screws from the inside of the drive-panel insert.

CAUTION:

Before you begin any of the procedures in this section, follow the safety instructions located in the Product Information Guide.

CAUTION:

To guard against electrical shock, laceration by moving fan blades, or other unexpected injuries, always unplug your computer from

the electrical outlet before removing the cover.
