Manually Install SQL Server 2005

To install SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Editions, you can run Setup using the SQL

Server 2005 Installation Wizard or you can install it from the command prompt. You can also add

components to an instance of SQL Server 2005 or upgrade to SQL Server 2005 from a previous

version of SQL Server.

We recommend a clean installation on the remote instance of SQL Server or when installing the

dedicated instance of SQL Server for DPM, and that you use the following settings:

• Use the default failure audit setting.
• Use the default Windows Authentication mode.
• Assign a strong password to the sa account.
• Enable password policy checking.
• Install only the SQL Server Database Engine and Reporting Services components.
