Replacing the Processor Heat Sink Assembly

 

1.

If not already done, remove the computer cover (see

Removing the Computer Cover

).


 

2.

Apply thermal solution to the heat sink as needed.

 

3.

Align the four captive screws on the heat sink assembly with the holes and rubber bushings on the system board.

 

4.

Tighten the screws evenly to secure the heat sink assembly to the system board.

 

5.

Attach the fan cable to the system board (see

System Board Components

).


 

6.

Perform the steps in the procedure

Remove the Chassis Fan

 

1.

Follow the procedures in

Before Working on Your Computer

.


 

2.

Remove the computer cover (see

Removing the Computer Cover

).


 

3.

Disconnect the chassis fan cable from the system board.

 

4.

While holding the chassis fan in place, remove the four screws that secure the fan to the chassis.

 

5.

Lift the fan out of the chassis.

1 Phillips screwdriver

2 heat sink assembly

3 heat sink fan cable

4 system board fan connector

5 screw holes with rubber bushings

6 screws (4)

NOTICE:

Ensure that the heat sink assembly is correctly seated and secure.
