Symptom

Possible causes and remedies

The picture moves vertically
during picture search mode.

• Adjust the vertical hold control on the TV or color monitor.

The sound drops out.

• The cassette is defective. Use a new video cassette.

Stereo recording cannot be made.

• AUTO STEREO is set to “OFF in the SET UP MENU.

Both main and SAP sounds are
heard when playing back a cassette
on which an MTS broadcast was
recorded.

• AUDIO MIX is set to “ON” in the SET UP MENU.

No sound is recorded on the
normal audio track.

• NORMAL AUDIO is set to “SAP” in the SET UP MENU

when there is no SAP broadcast.

Timer Recording

Timer setting cannot be made.

• The current time has not been preset.

The TIMER REC (recording)
indicator is not lit even though
you’ve pressed TIMER REC
(ON/OFF).

• No cassette has been inserted.

• The cassette is at its end.

• No setting for timer-recording has been made.

The cassette is ejected when you
press TIMER REC (ON/OFF).

The safety tab of the cassette has been removed.

Timer recording was not made.

There has been a power interruption of one hour or more.

TIMER REC (ON/OFF) was not pressed.

CABLE BOX CONTROL setup was not done or was done
incorrectly.

The cable box was not turned on when recording started.

The cable box is not receiving the control signal from the
VCR. Reposition the cable box away from the VCR.

Makes sure that the Cable Mouse is attached as shown
on page 8.

Display

The display does not appear on
the screen.

Press DISPLAY.

Others

Cassette cannot be inserted.

• A cassette has already been inserted.

The Remote Commander cannot

be operated.

• The batteries are low.

The tracking indicator does not
appear on the screen.

The channels on the VCR cannot
be changed.

• The recording condition of the cassette is very poor and

tracking cannot be adjusted.

• The CABLE BOX CONTROL is set to “ON.”

Set the CABLE BOX CONTROL to “OFF.”
