Cable clamp

A cable clamp (22) is provided on the base.

Cable guard

The height-adjustable cable guard is lowered by depressing the recessed cable guard buttons (14) with a suit-
able pointer (e.g. pen). These buttons (14) are located on the side of the base, near each wheel. Once lowered,
the cable guard can be raised in predefined increments as required.

Height adjustment

The column has an on-shot stroke of 76 cm (29.9 in.) and the load can be moved over this distance in perfect
balance, by raising and lowering the steering ring (29).

Steering

Directional manual control of the pedestal is achieved by turning the steering ring (29) mounted at the top of
the column. The steering system is geared so that the skid wheels turn by the same amount as the steering
ring. This ensures, for example, that with the pedestal set to crab, turning the steering ring by 90° will also cause
the pedestal to change direction by 90°.

The pedestal has a crab/steer arrangement with a changeover mechanism, which provides a steer setting (cas-
toring, angular pedestal repositioning); or a crab setting (all four wheels aligned together). Rotating the knob
(25) anticlockwise selects crab mode (‘x4’), and rotating the knob (25) clockwise selects steer mode (‘x1’).

Although the crab/steer knob (25) can be switched with the pedestal wheels in any position, the changeover
will not occur until the steering ring (29) is rotated, allowing the mechanism to engage. Engaging steer mode
will lock the steering ring (29) to allow rotational positioning of the pedestal. In crab mode, the steering ring (29)
rotates freely and changes the direction of the pedestal wheels.

Selecting manual or robotic mode

Automatic control is independently selected for vertical column movement and horizontal (FP-145 only) ped-
estal movement.

CAUTION! Cable guards should be set to the minimum height possible, to prevent the pedestal

damaging studio power and data cables.

WARNING! 1. ALWAYS collapse the moving column (4) and engage the column lock

(27) if wheeling the pedestal across uneven/inclined surfaces between
shots with the full payload fitted, to prevent loss of stability.

2. Take care not to trap fingers under the steering hub or between column
elements while pedestal height is being reduced.

Note:

Movement indicators (9) will flash to warn when the FP-145 pedestal moves across the
floor.
