The point of interest method is typically used in areas where there are no fixed
end devices to provide signal strength information, such as a walking trail or
parking lot. It can also be used to refine location in sites where there are
existing fixed end devices.

11.3 Setting Up the Known Signal Pattern Method

Once all location-enabled repeaters and fixed end devices have been installed
in their permanent locations, you can set up the Radius system for location
using the known signal pattern.

To provide accurate location information, Radius should only be loaded with
signal pattern information that represents the final layout of the site. Likewise
the final layout of the site should be designed to eliminate weak spots. Having
a robust Inovonics repeater layout is critical to having a good positioning
system environment.

11.3.1 Ensuring a Robust Inovonics Repeater Layout

Radius can create two reports designed to analyze the RF environment of your
site: The EchoStream Coverage Utility and EchoStream Tuning Utility.

To navigate to these utilities:

1

Click “Install Setup”

2

Choose “Echostream Coverage Utility” or “Echostream Tuning Utility”
from the “EchoStream and IPS Configuration” heading.

• The EchoStream coverage utility creates a .csv file with signal strength

and message information for each device. Message counts are broken
down into ten-point groups, so you can quickly see where there are
coverage issues. The table is sorted from worst coverage to best.

• The EchoStream tuning utility creates a .csv file with signal strength

information from every device to every repeater. This table is usually used
to find devices with light coverage.

11.3.2 Loading Fixed Device Signal Strengths

Once the system is in its final configuration and a robust Inovonics repeater
layout has been established, you can load the fixed device signal strengths to
establish the vector map necessary for location.

To load fixed device signal strengths:
