Step 3: Define the layout of the imported fields, adding frames and additional
tabs
: Tabs are generally used to separate different kinds of data on a document
or to separate data for different pages of a multi-page document. Frames are
used to logically group data entry fields within a tab.
Step 4: Specify the View Area and default Focus Area for each field.
Step 5: Edit or specify validation schemes, scripted or simple, for each data

field.
Step 6: Specify interface behavior, such the order in which fields are keyed

and autoskip.
Step 7: Specify scripts used to transform the data from Recognition and

Correction prior to display.
Step 8: Save and test the template file.

From Scratch

The typical process to create a template from scratch (which is not covered in this
tutorial) is as follows:

Step 1: Create a new template with a single data entry tab and set the basic

layout.
Step 2: Load a sample document image or images.
Step 3: Create additional data entry tabs if required.
Step 4: Create frames on each tab.
Step 5: Create each data field, ensuring the field names match those set in

Definer.
Step 6: Create label fields for each data field to aid navigation.
Step 7: Specify the View Area and default Focus Area for each field.
Step 8: Specify validation schemes, scripted or simple, for each data field.
Step 9: Specify interface behavior, such the order in which fields are keyed.
Step 10: Specify scripts to be used to transform the data from Recognition and

Correction prior to display.
Step 11: Save and test the template file.

Several areas are required in both methods, however a significant time saving is
made when using the Import Wizard to create the fields and labels. This also ensures
continuity in the properties set at Recognition and those at Completion.
