Airbags are only one part of a car's total

occupant protection system, and they have

one simple but very important role—to

supplement seat belts and help protect front-

seat occupants during a severe frontal

collision.

A frontal collision can be either head-on

or at an angle, with another vehicle or a solid

object.

Airbags are designed to deploy in a severe head-

on or angled frontal collision with another
vehicle, stopped or moving.
