Routine Maintenance
This section describes the maintenance procedure for the BJ Cartridge and cleaning method for the
printer.
When to Replace the BJ Cartridge
The ink tanks and print heads of the BJ Cartridge are consumable items. Read the following guide-
lines.
If printouts are faint, streaked or the colour tones are not correct, open the front cover of the printer
and check the remaining ink in the ink tanks.
■ Ink runs out
When ink runs out, the BJ Status Monitor displays an error message (when using Windows) and
the POWER lamp flashes in orange four times.

■ Ink remains but printouts are faint, streaked or the colour tones are not correct
If printouts are still unsatisfactory after replacing the ink tanks, the print heads may be clogged or
worn out. Follow the procedure below.
Print a nozzle check pattern. ( ➡ p.49 or p.50)
If the nozzle check pattern cannot be printed properly...
Perform normal print head cleaning. ( ➡ p.51)
If the problem cannot be solved...
Perform deep print head cleaning. ( ➡ p.53)
If the problem still cannot be solved...
Replace the BJ Cartridge. ( ➡ p.33)
Align the print head ( ➡ p.55 or p.57)
