The Stitch and Its Uses
The Shell Stitch is formed by sewing a
blind hem over folded fabric. Several
rows of shell stitching are called shell
tucks.
Shell stitching can be used to finish
hems, sleeve and neck openings.
Shell tucking can be used to create
scalloped tucks on blouses and
lingerie.
Here’s How
1,
For best effect;
—
set the stitch length as you
desire.
—
you may need to tighten the
top thread tension slightly.
—
allow the needle to just
clear the folded edge of the
fabric when it zigzags.
2. If you sew rows of shell stitches,
space the rows 5/8" apart.
You can sew Shell Stitch on knits or
soft silky wovens in any direction.
This stitch can also
single overiock stitch as
be used as a
well.
