Enable scripts attached to menus
Script writers can use a special command that allows scripts to be attached to menu commands. For security
purposes, InDesign includes a preference that determines whether attached scripts are allowed. If you trust the
source of an InDesign document, you can select Enable Attached Scripts so that scripts run whenever you choose
the commands to which they’re attached.
1 Choose Edit > Preferences > General (Windows) or InDesign > Preferences > General (Mac OS).
2 Select Enable Attached Scripts.
Important: Before opening an InDesign document from a source you don’t trust, deselect the Enable Attached Scripts
option.
Plug-ins
Install plug-ins
The InDesign plug-in modules are software programs developed by Adobe Systems, and by other software devel-
opers working in conjunction with Adobe, to add features to Adobe software. A number of importing, exporting,
automation, and special-effects plug-ins come with your program and are automatically installed in the Plug-Ins
folder. In fact, most of the features you see in InDesign are provided by plug-ins.
Once installed, plug-in modules appear as options on menus, in dialog boxes, or in panels.
1 If an installer is provided, use it to install the plug-in module. Otherwise, drag a copy of the module into the
Plug-Ins folder inside the InDesign application folder.
2 Follow any installation instructions that come with the plug-in.
Note: You can use any commercial plug-in designed for use with InDesign. Adobe Technical Support can help you isolate
problems related to plug-ins. However, if it has been determined that the problem is directly related to a plug-in created
by another company, you will need to contact that company for further support.
Configure plug-ins
Use the Configure Plug-ins dialog box to inspect and customize the set of installed plug-ins. For example, you can
get detailed information about installed plug-ins, create custom plug-in sets for different tasks or workgroups, and
isolate plug-ins when troubleshooting problems.
In the Configure Plug-ins dialog box, icons identify different kinds of plug-ins:
• Enabled plug-ins were loaded when you started the current InDesign session, and will stay loaded until you exit
InDesign.
• Adobe plug-ins are provided by Adobe.
• Required plug-ins must be present for InDesign to start.
Note: You cannot edit, rename, or delete the All Plug-ins, Adobe Plug-ins, or Required Plug-ins sets. To change any of
those sets, first duplicate the set, and then edit the duplicate.
1 Choose Help > Configure Plug-ins (Windows) or InDesign > Configure Plug-ins (Mac OS).
2 Do any of the following, and then click OK:
• To change the active set of plug-ins, choose one in the Set menu.
