7-4 Increasing Print Speed
♦ Keep in mind, though, that when you switch to a vertical
orientation, there is a tradeoff between print speed and
throughput. For example, consider these labels.
Measurement Definition Comparison Result
Print Speed Inches per
second The left label
width is half of the
right label width. The left label
prints at a
higher rate.
Throughput Labels per
inch The right label has
half of the feed
length of the left. The right label
finishes
printing sooner.
To alter a format to change its width, you would change the
format’s data stream. Then, you would change the application
and re-flash it into the printer.
Rule of Thumb
Remove excess white space on your labels where you are able.
Also, orient your formats (horizontally vs. vertically) to make the
most of what is important to your application (more labels vs.
faster printing).
