The VPN routers provide IPSec security for Virtual Private Network applications,
enabling two Internet-connected remote sites to act as if they were part of a single
LAN. Branch offices can deploy these routers to connect to head offices or trusted
suppliers. Remote offices can also install these routers to let telecommuters (mobile
users working outside of the office or workers sending in e-mail and reports from
home) to transfer sensitive information with company networks. Such information can
be securely transmitted over the Internet without the fear of being intercepted by
thieves.
In a site-to-site connection, two remote routers equipped with IPSec VPN are deployed
at each end of the Internet connection. In a telecommuter-to-office connection, the
remote user runs a VPN client software program on a PC to connect to the office
network installed with a VPN router.
The VPN routers provide VPN IPSec tunnels to remote sites or end-user clients,
allowing the remote sites and mobile telecommuters to securely transfer sensitive
information with company networks without the fear of being intercepted over the
Internet. The routers provide VPN accelerators to perform data encryption/decryption
to relieve the loading of the routers’ own CPU for execution of other tasks and to
enhance the routers’ overall performance.
D-Link VPN routers are VPNC-certified, and can connect to any third-party VPNC-
certified VPN routers at the remote site. For site-to-remote client connection, D-Link
VPN routers work with any VPNC-certified client software. As part of a total solution,
D-Link provides VPN Client Software (part number DS-601 and DS-605) for remote
users to run on a Windows-based PC.
At affordable prices, D-Link VPN routers can also be deployed at homes, so users
working away from home can securely access files and data on their own desktops’
hard disks over the Internet from anywhere on the planet.
