THRESHOLD adjusts the level when the gate opens
ATTACK 0 .1 … 200 ms adjusts how fast the gate opens
RELEASE 12 ms … 2 s adjusts how fast the gate closes
MAKEUP GAIN to compensate for gain loss (usually not needed for gate),
can be switched to auto gain for automatic gain compen-
sation
Compressor
A compressor is often used to make levels more even . Loud signal become softer, soft signals
become louder (via makeup gain) .
The compressor section has the following parameters:
THRESHOLD adjusts the level when compression sets in
RATIO 1:1 (no compression) …
32:1 (hard compression) adjusts the compression ratio, i .e . the factor by which a
gain increase is reduced
ATTACK 0 .1 … 200 ms adjusts how fast gain reduction sets in after the signal
exceeds the threshold
RELEASE 12 ms … 2 s adjusts how fast gain reduction fades after the signal falls
below the threshold
MAKEUP GAIN to compensate for gain loss
This can be switched to AUTO GAIN for automatic gain
compensation
