Queue Configuration

The Gateway’s WAN inter face can now be configured for:

strict priority queuing (as currently)

weighted fair queuing

rate-limiting funnel

Note:

The configuration mechanism is designed to be flexible enough to accommodate complex
queuing requirements. Configurations not suppor ted by the Gateway will be flagged during
configuration verification.

You configure the WAN outbound queue as follows:

create and configure one or more queues, which can be a basic queue or a priority queue comprising
a group of basic queues, a weighted fair queue comprising a group of basic queues, or a funnel com-
prising a group of basic queues;

assign a queue instance to the Ethernet WAN inter face;

map packet attributes to a queue.

The same queue name can be assigned to multiple inter faces which require identical queue configura-
tion, however currently the only inter face available for queueing configuration is ethernet 1.

The first two queuing stages only handle packets in relative terms, priority-wise or percentage-wise. The
third queuing stage can handle packets in relative or absolute (bit rate) terms. The last queuing stage
handles the packets in absolute terms to enforce the physical (or provisioned) output rate. At each
queue, local decisions are made to pass or drop the packets based on queue parameters and
attributes.

To help you configure queues, and to maintain compatibility with previous firmware releases, several
queues are set up automatically.
