MIB

Abbreviation for "Management Information Base".
Database containing descriptions of error messages of the devices and
functions in a network.

PBX

Abbreviation for "Private Branch eXchange".
Private telephone system that connects the different internal devices to
the ISDN network

PING

Abbreviation for "Packet Internet Groper".
A program to test whether a connection can be made to a defined
Æ IP target. Data is sent to the target and returned from there during the
test. The result of the test displays the success / failure of the transmission
and possible additional information such as the transmission time.

Port

Ports are used in

Æ IP networks to permit several communication connec-

tions simultaneously. Different services often have different port numbers.

PSS

Abbreviation for "Pre Shared Secret".
The PSS key is the master key used for data encryption in VoIP.

QoS

Abbreviation für „Quality of Service".
Describes the subjectively ascertainable quality (service quality) of a voice
connection through

Æ IP networks. Properties of QoS are packet loss rate,

packet delay, delay deviation, reserved bandwidth, type and bit rate (vari-
able, constant or unspecified).
