Using the Main Menu

NOTE: The DVR supports a single

external hard drive up to a
maximum size of 2TB. The
external hard drive must be
self-powered to work with the
system; it cannot receive power
from the DVR’s USB port.

NOTE: Footage on the external hard

drive can only be accessed using
the DVR or a Windows PC. The
footage cannot be accessed on
a Mac.

HDD Extension allows you to expand the
total storage capacity of your DVR, so
you can record longer durations of
video. When HDD extension is enabled,
the DVR will first record until the
internal hard drive is full before it
begins to record to the external hard
drive. Once the internal and external
hard drives are full, it will begin to
overwrite the oldest available
recordings on the internal hard drive
(first in, first out).

HDD Mirroring is useful if you want to
create an automatic backup of your
video footage on your external hard
drive. This allows you to secure your
external hard drive in a locked box or
cabinet. This way, if an intruder
removes or damages the DVR, you will
have a secure backup of the saved
footage.

The external hard drive you use for
mirroring must be the same size or
larger than the internal hard drive to
maintain a complete backup of your
internal hard drive.

NOTE: HDD Mirroring does not backup

data from before HDD
mirroring is enabled.
The DVR
begins parallel recording to
both hard drives when HDD
mirroring is enabled.

If the external hard drive is larger than
the internal hard drive, the DVR will do
the following:

1

Record in parallel to both hard drives until
the internal hard drive is full.

2

Begin to overwrite the oldest recordings
(first in first out) on the internal hard drive,
while continuing to record on the
additional capacity of the external hard
drive.

3

When the external hard drive is full,
overwrite the oldest recordings on the
external hard drive.

This allows you to keep a backup of your
most recent footage as well as a single
copy of your oldest available footage on
the external hard drive.
