Recording Speed
You can select a recording speed among 6 options.
The recording time depends on the recording speed
you select as follows:
* This table is designed for a new single-sided 12cm
disc as the standard. The recording time shown
above may differ from actual recording time.
* The audio and video quality is poorer as the
recording time becomes longer.

About DVD Recording
This unit can record to DVD-R and DVD-RW discs. When
recording, you will need to select a recording format between
Video mode and VR mode depending on the disc format.The
disc format for DVD-R is always "Video format," so a recording
format will be "Video mode". On the other hand, when record-
ing to DVD-RW, a recording format will be "Video mode" or
"VR mode" because a disc format is available between "Video
Recording format" and "Video format" for DVD-RW.
* This unit cannot record on the following discs.
•DVD-R General ver 2.0/8x
•DVD-RW ver 1.2/2-4xCPRM compatible.
Important
Video mode / VR (Video Recording) mode
Video Format
Select the Video Recording Mode to record discs that can
played back on most standard DVD players. Video Recording
Mode creates discs compatible with most DVD players, but
there is no capability to edit the recordings. DVD-R discs can
only be formatted in the Video mode, DVD-RW discs can be
formatted in the Video mode or the VR mode.
VR Format
Select the VR Recording Mode to record discs that can
be edited, but can be played back only on DVD recorders
and players that support the VR mode with DVD-RW
discs. DVD-R discs cannot be formatted in the VR mode,
only DVD-RW discs can be formatted in the VR mode.
DVD players with can play DVD-RW
recorded in VR mode.
NOTE:
• This unit cannot record CD-R or CD-RW discs.
• DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW discs recorded on a personal computer or
a DVD or CD recorder may not be played in this unit if the disc is dam-
aged or dirty or if there is dirt of condensation on the units lens.
• Even if you record a disc using a personal computer in a
compatible format, you may not play it in this unit due to the
application software used to create the disc. (Check with the
software distributor for more detailed information.)
• Discs recorded in Video mode on this unit cannot be record-
ed additionally using other DVD recorders.
