The print server will use the last three methods to obtain its
IP address automatically if its IP address is configured as
Auto (0.0.0.0).

6.3.1 DHCP

There are many Uni x sys te ms that sup port DHCP protocol , and the
procedures to confi gure the DHCP server database are di fferent. Thi s
manual does not descri be the DHCP s erver confi gurati on on the Uni x
syste ms . It i s hi ghl y recommended that the DHCP server shoul d be l ocated
on the sa me net work as the pri nt server.

6.3.2 BOOTP

If you have the BOOTP dae mon, bootp d, runni ng on your UNIX syste m that
i s accessi bl e by the pri nt server, you can use the BOOTP protocol to set up
the IP address of the pri nt server. W e reco mmend that the BOOTP server
shoul d be l ocated on the same subnet as the pri nt server. If you use
Net work Infor mati on Servi ces (NIS) i n your syste m, you may need to rebui l d
the NIS map wi th the BOOTP servi ces before doi ng the fol l owi ng BOOTP
confi gurati on. To rebui ld the NIS map, pl ease refer to your system
docu mentati on.

To confi gure the IP address data for the BOOTP server, you wi l l need to l og
i n the host of BOOTP server as the su peruser (root). Perform the fol l owi ng
steps to add address entri es,

1. Optionally, assign a name corresponding to the print
server

’s IP address. You can add this address to the

/etc/hosts file, by adding a line such as:

203.66.191.12

pserver

2. Add an entry to the host

’s /etc/bootptab file, similar to

the following:

hostname:\

:ht=1:\

:ha=print_server_ethernet_address:\

:ip=print_server_ip_address:

W here hostname i s the devi ce na me of a pri nt server, the ht=1 tag speci fi es
the hardware type i s Ethernet, the ha= tag speci fi es the Ethernet address of
