Notice that this window has two frames of controls: the Original data file specification frame and the New (Converted) data file
specification frame. Like all the convert functions, this first function uses the last file selected of DSPlay as a default “root” file name
for filling both its file name text boxes.

This window allows any original data file, of the two (2) major data types (AutoLog or Record), to be converted into its other format.
Here are the conversion possibilities:

„

Live ‘Record’ data (.txt) into its spreadsheet (.csv) format

„

Live ‘Record’ spreadsheet data (.csv) into its readable text (.txt) format

„

Extracted ‘AutoLog’ data (.atd) into its spreadsheet (.csv) format

„

Extracted ‘AutoLog’ spreadsheet data (.csv) into its readable text (.atd) format

To use this utility, accept the default names automatically selected or enter the full path name of the desired original file name into the
Original (first) frame’s text box.

A New data file name with the “other” extension, is automatically generated, by default, in the New frame. If a file by that name
already exists, a revision string (number 1-999 in parentheses) is added to the file name to the left of the file extension. The file is
tested for existence, and if not, the number is incremented. Avoid clicking the View/Edit button for this “non-existent” New file unless
you want to create and see a new blank file. Similarly, the Browse button is useless at this stage (before conversion), unless you want to
look for another file to use as a “root” template for naming the New file.

When the Convert button is clicked, the Original file has its format converted to the other format, and written to the New file. If the
New file already exists, you are warned, and allowed to abort or to overwrite that file. No data values are changed by this type of
conversion, only the file’s format.

After the Convert button is clicked, a status box appears (below the buttons) to indicate the progress of the conversion or to show any
problems it finds with the input file and output file. Except for very large text files, with many samples, conversion is nearly
instantaneous. A bright “green” status field background appears for a successful conversion. A pale “yellow” background usually
indicates errors have occurred, as indicated by the message. A bright “orange” status field indicates conversion in progress.

If conversion is successful, clicking the View/Edit button in the New frame pops-up this newly created file for viewing and/or editing
using the text editor assigned to DSPlay. If you click Exit the Convert window closes and the new file becomes the new last file selected
of DSPlay and is immediately displayed (e.g., replotted). Use the File | Open menu of DSPlay to delete it or rename it as required or
use another selection on the Convert menu to convert the file in some other way.
