This chapter will explain how to perform typical maintenance on a Level Scout. The Level Scout has been designed to provide many
years of reliable service while requiring minimal maintenance.

4.1 BATTERY REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES

Periodic replacement of the internal batteries will be required every three to five years. The following simple steps will guide the user
through this replacement process.

Warning

Due to the inherent explosion risks of lithium batteries when exposed to
water, YSI does not recommend using lithium batteries in the Level Scout.

Figure 4.1

Remove the cable or wire from the transducer by holding the
transducer in one hand and the retaining nut with the other
hand. Gently unscrew the retaining nut of the cable or wire
from the transducer. The nut will rotate while unscrewing
from the transducer body, but the cable will remain
stationary.

Twist this part to unscrew the cable from
the transducer.

This part remains stationary.

Continue to un-thread until the nut is completely un-
threaded. Grasp the nut and gently pull it and the cable away
from the transducer body (figure 4.2).

Lay the cable end aside, on a clean, dry surface.
