Chapter 5: Remote Control

PCL & PCR Parameter Control

The PCL (Pitch Shift Left) and PCR (Pitch Shift Right) parameters of the Stereo Pitch 1 & 2
effects can he controlled hy sending MIDI Note On messages from a MIDI keyboard or

sequencer to the FX550.

• Applicable MIDI Equipment

• MIDI keyboard
• MIDI sequencer

• Set Up Procedure

1. Press the [UTILITY] button to show the MIDI SETUP display.

2. Press the [ ▼ ] or [ A ] button to select the MIDI bank (A, B, C, or D).

3. Press the [ -^ ] or [ ► ] button to position the cursor, and set the MIDI channel parameter

using the [

T

] or [ A ] button.

4. Press the [EDIT] button to enter Edit mode, and set the Pitch Shifter’s KEY parameter. The

difference between the Note On message and the KEY parameter will be used to calculate the
PCL and PCR parameters. The figure below shows how it works.

Example: Key parameter setting is set to

C4.

© When a Note On value of G4 is

received, there is a difference of +7

between C4 (the key parameter) and
G4 (the received Note On value).
The PCL and PCR parameters will be
set to +7.

@ If a subsequent Note On value of E3 is

received, the difference between C4
(the key parameter) and E3 (the
received Note On value) becomes -8.

The PCL and PCR parameters will
then be set to -8.

See the keyboard diagram on the right
for an explanation of the numerical dif
ferences between note values, when
the PCL and PCR parameter are set
toC4.

• Operation Procedure

1. Connect the MIDI output of the device that is sending the MIDI Note On messages to the

FX550’s MIDI IN connector.

2. Transmit a MIDI Note On message to the FX550.

* When a chord is received as the Note On message, the top note of the chord will set the

PCL value and the next note down in the chord will set the PCR value.

* If you don’t want to control the PGL and PCR parameters using Note On messages, set the

KEY parameter value to OFF.
