Troubleshooting

If you are having some difficulty operating the FX550, see if any of the symptoms listed below
apply to your problem, then follow the reconunended remedy

Symptom

Remedy

Nothing is displayed on

the LCD.

Make sure that the power supply adapter is plugged into an AC receptacle of

the type described on the adapter. Make sure the adapter is connected to the

FX550 correctly. Press the POWER switch. If there is still no display, please

contact your Yamaha dealer.

The FX550 is powered

up, but no sound can be
produced.

Make sure that the FX550’s INPUT level control is turned up.
Make sure your amplifier is turned on and its volume control turned up.
Check all your connections and cables.
Make sure your guitar is turned up.

Sound is produced, but
none of the effect
programs can be used.

Make sure that the FX550 is not in bypass mode. See "Bypassing the FX550”
on page 8.

An effect section does

not seem to work.

Make sure that effect section is not switched off.

The sound is distorted.

Make sure the PEAK indicator does not light up when are playing. If it does light
up, back off the INPUT level control a little. Note: if the distortion effect is on,

the sound will be distorted.

When you press the
bypass foot switch not
all effect sections are
bypassed.

Is one of the effect program’s effect sections set to “Unused”. See “Bypass” on
page 31.

The FX550 does not

respond to MIDI Program
Change messages.

Make sure that the currently selected FX550 MIDI bank is set to the same MIDI
channel as the device that is transmitting the MIDI Program Change messages.
See “MIDI Control” on page 32.

The FX550 does not
respond to MIDI
Controller messages.

Make sure that the currently selected FX550 MIDI bank is set to the same MIDI

channel as the device that is transmitting the MIDI Controller messages. Make
sure the FX550 is set to receive the type of MIDI controllers that you are
transmitting. See “MIDI Control” on page 32.

MIDI Controller
messages are controlling

the wrong effect
parameters.

See “MIDI Control” on page 32.
