Start b]T sewing stitch rows from left to right

and vice-versa (Fig. 17a), These rows should

be parallel and as dose to one another as pos­

sible, Do not extend the rows beyond the edge

of the damaged area farther than absolutely
necessary to secure the stitches. It is advan­
tageous to make rows of different lengths in

order to prevent the material from tearing at
the edge of the area darned.

Then cover the parallel rows with new parallel

rows at right angles running front to back and

vice-versa.

The first covering rows are sewn a little beyond the outermost first rows (Fig. 17 b)

in order to obtain a regular and strong darned area. The covering rows should also be

parallel and as close to one another as possible.
