If there is no Map Catalog available for the current database, EasyLoader creates a MAPINFO
user if one does not already exist and then creates the Map Catalog. This concludes the Map
Catalog creation process.

• If there is a Map Catalog, the Unregister tables from Map Catalog dialog box displays. Close

this dialog box. There is already a map catalog in this database.

If the Map Catalog is present and there are no entries in it, then the Map Catalog button
does not enable.

Note:

3. Click Close to close EasyLoader.

Oracle users:

1. Click Oracle Spatial. In the MapInfo Oracle Connect dialog box set the following and then click OK:

User Name - The username for accessing the database.

Password - The password for accessing the database.

Server Name - The name of the Oracle database that you want to connect to.

2. Click Map Catalog to add a new Map Catalog. One of two things happens:

• If there is no Map Catalog available for the current database, EasyLoader creates a MAPINFO

Catalog creation process.

• If there is a Map Catalog, the Unregister tables from Map Catalog dialog box displays. Close

this dialog box. There is already a map catalog in this database.

If the Map Catalog is present and there are no entries in it, then the Map Catalog button

Adding a Spatial Primary Key to a DBMS Table

After establishing a data source connection to your DBMS you must add a geometry reference to the
tables you wish to work with on a map in MapInfo Professional. Each table that you want to work with
must contain geometry, such as regions, or X,Y point data, with correctly named columns and a unique
primary key column that is indexed and defined with a specific name.

If you attempt to work with a DBMS table that does not contain a spatial primary key column and does
not have geometry and X,Y columns correctly labeled, then you may see the following error:

Unable to download only the OBJECT from a DBMS table. Select an additional attribute column.

To have MapInfo Professional prepare a table for you:

1. Open the table in MapInfo Professional, select File > Open and then locate and select the table from

the Open dialog box.

2. Select File > Save Copy As and save a copy back to the DBMS.

This saves a copy of the table with a unique primary key column that is indexed and in the correct
format. This process also asks you for your spatial geometry column or your X,Y columns in the table
and then renames these columns, so that MapInfo Professional can work with them.

You are now ready to begin working with the data in MapInfo Professional in tabular form (in a Browser
window). For details on what changes are made to column names, see
