Opens the Modify Thematic Map dialog box for changing thematic
display properties. This button enables after selecting a legend frame
in the Legend Designer window.

Modify Thematic
Map

Shows or hides an equally spaced grid of lightly marked lines to align
legend frames to.

Toggle Grid Lines

A slider bar that changes the size of the grid to make it smaller or
larger.

Change Grid Size

Check this box to enable snapping to the grid. Uncheck to disable
snapping to grid.

Snap / Toggle Snap
to Grid

Adds a guideline to the Legend Designer canvas for aligning legend
frames along their left or right sides.

Add Vertical
Guidelines

Adds a guideline to the Legend Designer canvas to align the tops
or bottoms of legend frames.

Add Horizontal
Guidelines

Aligns all selected legend frames to the nearest guideline located to
the left of the legend frame.

Snap to Closest Left
Guideline

Aligns all selected legend frames to the nearest guideline located to
the right of the legend frame.

Snap to Closest
Right Guideline

Aligns all selected legend frames to the nearest guideline located
above the legend frame.

Snap to Closest Top
Guideline

Aligns all selected legend frames to the nearest guideline located
below the legend frame.

Snap to Closest
Bottom Guideline

In addition to these buttons there is also a Snap checkbox, which turns snapping to grid lines on or off,
and a Zoom level drop-down list, where you select to zoom in or out of the Legend Designer window
view.

Legend Designer Menu Options

Creating a legend places a Legend Designer menu on the menu bar. This menu is only visible when the
Legend Designer window is active and includes the following options.

Opens the Add Frames wizard where you can select map layers
that you want to add to the map legend on display in the Legend

Designer window. You can also set unique attributes for the legend
frame for each map layer that you add.

Opens the Text Frame Properties dialog box where you can add
text to display in the legend; this can be text for a title, subtitle, or

description of the contents of the legend for example. You can include
carriage returns in the text.

Opens the Refresh Legend dialog box where you can specify how
you would like to redraw the contents of the Legend Designer

window: by refreshing styles, or changing a classic layout to be
portrait or landscape.

If there are guidelines visible or hidden (enabled or disabled) in the
Legend Designer window, then selecting this option removes all of
them.

Remove All Guidelines

If there is a legend selected in the Legend Designer window, then
this option opens the Legend Frame Properties dialog box, which
