Each MultiPro unit can be accessed directly through the Supervisory port. It is a
dedicated port and is physically separated from the regular communications ports.
Although the use of this port is completely optional, it is invaluable in diagnosing
network problems.

The Supervisory port is only accessible via an asynchronous ASCII terminal, also
known as a dumb terminal. Most personal computers can emulate a dumb terminal
using terminal-emulation software such as CROSSTALK

®

or PROCOMM

®

.

To access the Supervisory port from a remote location or for assistance from
TXPORT in diagnosing problems with a particular unit, connection of almost any
Hayes

®

-compatible modem to the port provides remote access.

When configuring the terminal or personal computer, use the following settings.

Baud Rate:

9600 kbps is the maximum autobaud rate. Local and remote

connection can be 1200, 2400, 4800, or 9600 kbps.

Data Bits:

7

Stop Bits:

1

Parity:

even

When the terminal is connected either locally or remotely, press Enter twice. If the
terminal and the unit are communicating properly, the main console menu is seen
as shown below. If not, the terminal or personal computer is probably not
configured correctly.
