A. Frequently Asked Questions

Regarding Camera Features

Q: What is an Internet/Network Camera?
A: The HNC300/HNC320G is a standalone system that connects directly to an Ethernet or Fast Ethernet network. The
HNC320G also supports wireless transmission based on the IEEE 802.11b/g standard. It is different from a conventional
PC Camera in that the HNC300/HNC320G is an all-in-one system with built-in CPU and web-based solutions that
provide a low cost solution, which can transmit high quality video images for monitoring. The HNC300/HNC320G can
be managed remotely, and can be accessed and controlled from any PC/Notebook over the Intranet or Internet via a web
browser.

Q: What is the maximum number of users that can be allowed to access the HNC300/HNC320G simultaneously?
A: The maximum number of users that can log onto the HNC300/HNC320G at the same time is 64. Please keep in mind
that the overall performance of the transmission speed will slow down when many users are logged on simultaneously.

Q: What algorithm is used to compress the digital image?
A: The HNC300/HNC320G utilizes the JPEG image compression technology, thereby providing high quality images for
users. JPEG technology is utilized since it is a standard for image compression and can be applied to various web browser
sand application software without the need to install extra software.

For the HNC320G only:

Q: Can I change the wireless antenna that is attached to the HNC320G?
A: The wireless antenna can be changed for such purposes as extending the wireless transmission range. However,
please make sure that the connectors of the new antennas are of the SMA connector type. For a full listing of high
performance antennas that can be used to replace the standard antenna that has been included with the HNC320G, please
visit the Hawking website at:

.

Q: What is the wireless transmission range for the HNC320G?
A: Generally, the wireless distance will reach up to 100 meters indoors and up to 300 meters outdoors. The range is
limited by the number of walls, ceilings, or other objects that the wireless signals must pass through. Typical ranges vary
depending on the types of materials and background Radio Frequency (RF) noise in your home or business and the
configuration setting of your network environment.

HNC300/HNC320G Installation

Q: Can the HNC300/HNC320G be used outdoors?
A: The HNC300/HNC320G is not weatherproof. Outdoor use is not recommended. In some cases, the camera can be
equipped with a weatherproof case to be used outdoors, but users are advised to use caution when choosing this option.

Q: What network cabling is required for the HNC300/HNC320G?
A: The HNC300/HNC320G uses Category 5 UTP cable for 10 Base-T and 100 Base-TX networking.
