Programming the Remote Control
The Digital Satellite Receiver’s remote control is preset at the factory to
operate Sony brand TVs.
If you have a TV other than Sony brand, or you have other video
components that you want to control with the Digital Satellite
Receiver’s remote, use the following procedures to program the
remote.
Note
Your components must have infrared (IR) remote control capability in order to
be used with the Digital Satellite Receiver’s remote.
To program the Digital Satellite Receiver’s remote:

“Displaying the Programmable Codes” on
page 74.

Turn to “Programmable Codes” on page 86, and find the three-
digit code number for your component. If more than one code
number is listed, use the number listed first to complete the
following procedures.
You must perform step 3 within 10
seconds of step 2, or you must start again
from step 2.

Press the CODE SET button.

Press the FUNCTION button (VTR, SAT or TV) for the component
you’re setting up.
SAT-A4 Only: To set up a VCR or laserdisc
player, set the slide switch to any position (VTR3/VTR2/DVD/
AMP).
You must perform step 4 within 10
seconds of step 3, or you must start again
from step 2. To cancel the operation, press
the ENTER button.

Enter the three-digit code number.

Press the ENTER button.
To Check if the Code Number Works
Use the following procedure to make sure the code you’ve entered
works:

Aim the Digital Satellite Receiver’s remote control at the
component and press the POWER button that corresponds to that
component.

For TVs and VCRs : If the component responds, try the POWER,
CH+ and CH- buttons. If the component responds, you’re done.

If the code doesn’t work for your component:
q Try programming the remote using the other codes listed for
your component.
q If you cannot get your component to respond to the Digital
Satellite Receiver’s remote — even after trying all the code
numbers for your component — your component may not be
compatible with the Digital Satellite Receiver’s remote. If this
happens, you must use your component’s own remote to
operate it.
