Taking Pictures with Manual Focus

Use the manual focus setting when you
record landscapes and want to lock infinity
distance, or, on the contrary, when the
distance from the subject is locked and you
do not want to operate the auto focus.

[Preparation]
• Set the operational mode dial and REC

mode dial. (P25)

1

Set the focus dial to [MF].

2

Center the subject in the focus area.

The focus area becomes the

selected area in AF setting. (e.g.:
When the spot AF mode is changed
to the manual mode)

3

Turn the focus ring.

• When a subject is near the focus, the

focus assist [ ] on the center of the
LCD monitor will be displayed; if the
focus is adjusted, the focus indication
µ

will appear inside [ ] and the

operation beep will sound.

4

Take a picture.

• The recording method is the same as

in “Taking Pictures (AUTO Mode)”.
(P28)

• In motion image mode [

], the manual focus can also be used. When

motion image recording starts, the focus is locked.

• When focus is adjusted in wide angle mode, focus cannot be adjusted

properly in close-up mode.

• Even when adjusting focus in tele mode, after operating zoom, it could

happen that focus is not adjusted.

• In dark places, the focus assist does not appear.
• When setting infinity distance mode, the infinity indication [¶] will appear on

the LCD monitor.

• If you reset the focus ring a little, by turning it slowly in the same direction,

after the focus assist has been displayed, it is easier to adjust the focus.
