4.11.3 Serial Device Connection Using a RJ-45 to DB-9 Cable
Follow the steps in the section above to connect a RJ-45 to DB-9 cable to the RJ-45 serial
port on the AFL-4 Series-N270 panel PC. Then follow the steps below to connect a serial
device to the cable.
Step 1: Insert the serial connector. Insert the DB-9 connector of a serial device into
the DB-9 connector end of the RJ-45 to DB-9 cable. See Figure 4-23.

Step 2: Secure the connector. Secure the serial device connector to the external
interface by tightening the two retention screws on either side of the connector.
4.11.3.1 RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 Pinouts
The pinouts for RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 operation of external serial ports COM1 and
COM3 using a RJ-45 to DB-9 cable are detailed below. The COM1 serial port is RS-232
only.
