Instrument

7.1 What Is Conductivity?

Conductivity of a solution is defined as the ability of the solution to conduct electric
current. It is the reciprocal of the resistance between two sensors (both of areas 1 m

2

) at

a distance of 1 m apart in the solution.

1 S/cm = 100 S/m

Figure 7.1 shows the conductivities of typical solutions.
