Installing FastIron GS and FastIron GS-STK Devices

The procedures in this manual are intended for qualified service personnel.

Unpacking a system

This chapter describes how to physically install FastIron GS and FastIron GS-STK devices.

Information about configuring IP addresses and connecting network devices is in the chapter

“Connecting Network Devices and Checking Connectivity”

on page 53.

FastIron GS and FastIron GS-STK devices ship with all of the items listed below. Please review the
list and verify the contents of your shipping container. If any items are missing, please contact the
place of purchase.

Package contents

The following items are shipped in with FGS and FGS-STK devices:

Brocade FastIron GS or FastIron GS-STK device with one AC or DC power supply installed

115V AC US power cable (for AC-sourced devices - DC power supplies do not ship with a power
cable)

Rack mount brackets and mounting screws

One .5 meter CX4 stacking cable (FastIron GS-STK models only)

CD-ROM with software images and user documentation (including this guide)

EIA /TIA DB-9 serial cable (F or F)

Warranty card and registration card

General requirements

To manage the system, you will need to connect a management station, such as a PC running a
terminal emulation application. Use the DB-9 serial cable for this connection.

Use the serial connection to perform basic configuration tasks, such as assigning an IP address
and network mask. This information is required to manage the system using the Web management
interface or IronView Network Manager, or using the CLI through Telnet.
